e-business opportunity: e-commerce
Online consumer shopping is the most obvious e-business opportunity. IDC/LINK projects online sales to consumers will increase over twenty-fold by 2001.
They expect the number of people connected to the Web to rise to 900 million
within 3 years. A lot of customers with a lot of money to spend. New e-business solutions are already generating millions of dollars in sales over the Web for large and small companies.
Less obvious, but with greater potential, is the market for business-to-business e-commerce. IDC predicts that goods purchased online by businesses
will grow from $1.3 billion in 1996 to over $1 trillion in 2001. Can you afford to miss out on this tremendous growth?
And security is an obvious concern for online transactions. A recent
ECONOMIST article states that 65% of Americans said they would not give out their credit card numbers online. It's really safer than letting the waiter out of your sight at a restaurant with your card or giving out the card number over the telephone to an unknown salesperson.
But for millions of potential cyberconsumers, the fear of credit card theft is a real one. Secure transactions are a reality today because of SSL (secure
socket layer) technology. If you are selling online you must offer a secure environment. We do it every day, successfully!
Customers will think of it as better service, a better selection, a reason to do business with your e-business.
How many ways can e-business and e-commerce help your business? Are you ready for e-business? We're ready whenever you are.
